Want to ditch my 18-200 but what to replace it... →
I am in the same boat, but there is no easy way out. A Tamron 17-50 + Nikon 55-200 is a possible low cost alternative, but not really sure that it is worth it (already have the 50/1.8 and 35/1.8 for low light things).
